Pastor Don Phillips, the Senior Pastor of Rhema Umtata Christian Church(RUCC),was born and raised in the Tsolo District of the former Transkei. As a fervent evangelist, he set out to share his faith through crusades and evangelistic meetings. He married Nomsa, his dear wife in 1985. Having held several positions in insurance and mining, Don entered Rhema Bible School in Orkney in 1987. Upon conclusion of his studies Don and Nomsa accepted God’s call to Umtata Christian Church in 1989.
Through Don’s evangelistic vision the church grew into one of the few multiracial churches in the region and the church’s current membership of 3 500. In 1996 Don was appointed to the Affirmative Forum to address sensitive issues facing churches, and later became the IFCC Regional Co-ordinator for the Eastern Cape. He serves on the Board of EE III as chairperson, and also as director of the Church Growth section. He is the Deputy President of the International Federation of Christian Churches (IFCC). Under his wing, R.U.C.C. has planted 8 churches; 7 in the Eastern Cape and 1 in Cape Town. He is supported by his wife Nomsa. They have three children, two sons, Xhanti, Mandla 22 & 5, and a daughter, Ntando who is 9 years old.
